Care and Maintenance
First, we at Moon Architectural concrete product want to thank and welcome you to a community of concrete art, where your imagination is the only limit. Each of our products is handcrafted utilizing a mathematical calculation proven to produce consistency and quality every time. Each of the products is finished and sealed for outdoor enjoyment. Part of the beauty of concrete is that it will react to its surroundings and naturally weather and patina during its life span. It is essential to regularly clean and cover your concrete products when not in use. Keeping it covered will protect it from mother nature’s elements: rain, snow, and other harsh weather conditions.
Fire Products
Take note that any sediments or liquids that settle on the fire table should be removed as soon as possible. When cleaning the concrete surface using a mild solution, non-abrasive cleaner, any natural surface cleaner should work. To clean, spray down the surface and wipe with a non-abrasive sponge or microfiber towel.
-DO NOT use a citrus-based cleaner; the highly acidic cleaners can damage the natural materials. Please DO NOT use any bleach-based, ammonia-based, or abrasive cleaner as they could damage and wear down the sealer. You can find more natural-based cleaners at any local target, grocery store, etc. We like any non-citric cleaner from Method found in your local isle at target.
-To ensure the most desired esthetic, we recommend waxing your concrete after two months of installment and following up waxing every 2-5 months after, depending on how much you use it. TREWAX Clear Pastes can be found online or at any hardware store typically. Waxing your concrete will invest in the longevity and beauty of your Moon Architectural Concrete.
Burner Media and Fire Ring
Fun Fact - There is actually a little spider that loves the smell of gas and will create webs within your Fire Ring make it hard for the gas to flow properly.
If you notice your Fire to have a unique shape or not igniting at all, it may be time to clean it, but don’t worry; with a bit of help, you can clean it out and get everything back to working condition.
FIRST, MAKE SURE THE FIRE FEATURE IS COMPLETELY COOLED DOWN. The next step is to carefully remove burner media (lava rock, fire glass, rock, etc.). Next, use a wire brush and vacuum to remove dust, debris, spider webs, and any loose particles that could be blocking the flow of gas.
Take time to inspect your Fire Ring; if there is noticeable damage, it must be replaced; please contact MAC Designs for a replacement Fire Ring,
WHAT IS GFRC?
Simply put GFRC or glass fiber reinforced concrete is concrete reinforced with glass fibers and polymers. Special alkaline resistant glass fibers and polymers are used instead of steel. These fibers will not rust like steel making GFRC a very desirable product where water may be present. The other main advantages of GFRC are its lightweight, strong, weather resistant, fire retardant, impermeable, and attractive
MAC utilizes GFRC to construct most of their products which offer a higher tensile strength than steel or concrete, basically GFRC has a higher maximum load before it will fracture. The higher the fiber content, the higher the strength. One of the most desirable advantages of GFRC is they weigh a fraction of the weight of traditional pre-cast concrete. The second most desirable advantages of GFRC is the unlimited design freedom with shapes, textures, and color. MAC can customize any aspect of your project. For example a 30 Foot bar top without a seam, or a 16 foot fire table with custom texture, color, sheen, aggregate, the options are truly up to your imagination. GFRC is completely customizable to your liking. Mac has a standard line of products to choose from, however we also pride ourselves in our custom products including outdoor furnishings, fireplaces, fire tables, fire features, fire bowls, Counter tops, and much more. With MAC your in the driver seat, let us help you create your space.
GFRC will not burn, in fact GFRC protects all underlining materials from burning as well.
It is lightweight with superior strength to traditional concrete or other products. It can withstand weather elements and is more freeze-thaw resistant then conventional concrete. There is no rust even in the harshest marine environments
GFRC illuminates the look and feel of natural stone, but possesses the benefit of complete customization. At MAC we believe that GFRC brings together the Strength of stone and the creativity of the designer. With GFRC the design elements are endless. MAC’s history is rooted in Fire technology and systems. We can help take your fire feature to the next level with the perfect flame height, one continuous custom burner, or the perfect complements of fire shapes and fire glass.
MAC utilizes precise calculations to create the perfect color each and every time. We utilize a systematic approach to our process so that each and every piece can be recreated to match color and texture. Each piece is hand crafted to a standard of Luxury.
How GFRC products are created.
GFRC is a slightly more complex process than a typical concrete pour, requiring a lot more attention to detail. Instead of pouring concrete into a form in a single fluid motion, the GFRC is layered within the mold, each layer having a specific function to the success of the piece. The part is constructed upside down on a flat surface and the layers are either hand laid or sprayed into the mold. The first layer of concrete is about 1/8 inch thick. After this layer hardens, but before it dries out, a second thin layer is added, this time with fibers in the mix. This layer is then rolled out to eradicate any lingering air pockets and this mechanically bonds the layers together. Finally, the rest of the concrete with the now-infused fiber can be added into the mold to finish the process. This finished product is a thin, hollow construction of GFRC, and is typically ½ inch to ¾ of an inch thick.
